WAITING FOR PASOLINI, INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS OF THE MOROCCAN CINEMA. |
After its success in the Festival AMAL, better movie, and in the Festival of Cairo, better Arabic movie, and after its successful way along different world festivals, as Cines del Sur or its opening of the Festival of Arabic Cinema of Los Angeles, Waiting for Pasolini has turned already into one of the movies most acclaimed of the last Moroccan cinema. Waiting for Pasolini gives different motives for the success. On one hand a simple and emotive history not exempted of risks, there are avoided neither the homosexuality nor the suffering of the principal characters. And in the other one the own genesis of the film, a fiction version of a previous documentary that was investigating the influence of the international productions carried out in Ouarzazate's area, without hiding and even exploiting such an origin in the form itself of the film. Daoud Aoulad Syad, the director of the movie and a prominent guest in the last edition of the Festival AMAL, stands out the loyalty to the reality as one of his principal intentions in the scenario, as an appraisement of the previous documentary and also as an honoring to Pasolini, which rolled in Ouarzazate one of his most important works, Oedipus Re, the simplest drama in which the director and Italian poet seemed to want to re-found Neorealism in an archaic and naked key. The Moroccan cinema stands out between the cinemas of the Arabic countries as one of the most developed, enjoys public helps and of several generations of filmmakers practising at the time. His international takeoff takes place from the eighties, with several prizes in Cannes and other festivals worldwide. At present, with record productions every year, it is possible to speak already about consolidation. |
